James Madison Meader, son of Daniel Meader (1782-1872) [0133] and Nancy Ann Avery (1788-1861), was born March 30, 1823 in the Newbury, VT area and died February 19, 1899 at the Soldiers Home, Grand Rapids, MI. He was a soldier in company J, 1st Michigan Regiment of Engineers and Mechanics during the Civil War.

Probably soon after this he moved to Michigan, for the record shows that "he was from Michigan" and that he returned to Newbury, after an absence of forty years, on the day his older brother John was buried. That might make that date about 1857.
